It’s time for your annual safety inspection, and you drive your car to your local mechanic. As you sit in the waiting room, you wonder if your car is going to pass this year. Were you supposed to top off your fluids? Did you need to change your windshield wipers? When it comes to auto servicing, it is easy to be a car driver who doesn’t stay up to speed on what your car needs to be able to do to keep you safe on the road.
Effective in July of 2016, Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation changed the rules for vehicle safety inspections to include a more thorough check of cars on the road. If your vehicle is due for its next inspection soon, here are some of the things you can expect your auto shop to check for:
• Powertrain
• Suspension
• Brakes
• Steering
• Instruments & Auxiliary Equipment
• Lamps
• Electrical
• Body
• Tire & Wheel
• Coupling Devices
• Road Test
It is important to note that these stricter rules for safety inspections are designed to ensure that your car is in fact fit to be on the road. Additionally, you will still receive an inspection report, so you know the full extent of your scores at your next safety inspection.
